Nelya Coomans is a lyric soprano studying music at California State University, Northridge. Raised in British Colombia, Canada, her passion for music and performance brought her to the University of Utah, where she studied Vocal Performance under Julie Wright-Costa. Nelya has been cast in numerous musicals, plays, and operas. Some of her most notable roles include Belle in Beauty and the Beast, Ruth in Pirates of Penzance, Gertrude in Seussical, and Diana in Anne of Green Gables. She was also awarded “Best Classical Performance” and “Best Comedic Performance” through the Royal Conservatory of Music Vocal Festival for three consecutive years. This is Nelya’s first production with Mission Opera and she is very excited to be a part of it!
