Nick Leonard
Double Bass
Nick Leonard is a double bassist originating from South Pasadena, California. His musical journey began in the South Pasadena strings program, where he initially honed his skills on the violin before transitioning to the double bass in 3rd grade. Throughout his years in middle school and high school Nick showcased his talent as a member of the Pasadena Youth Symphony Orchestra and the Colburn Youth Orchestra and Chamber Orchestra.
Upon graduating from Loyola High School of Los Angeles, Nick pursued his passion at the esteemed New England Conservatory of Music. There, he studied under the guidance of renowned mentors Don Palma and Larry Wolfe, earning both a bachelor's degree (2018) and a master's degree (2020) in double bass performance.
Equipped with a wealth of knowledge and experience, Nick has returned to his roots in South Pasadena, where he works as a freelance musician. He has performed with groups such as the Santa Barbara Symphony, San Bernardino Symphony, Los Angeles Virtuosi Orchestra, and the Chamber Orchestra of the South Bay.
In addition to his performing career, Nick is committed to music education and holds teaching positions at the Pasadena Youth Symphony Orchestra, Arcadia High School, and the Kadima Conservatory of Music. His dedication to nurturing the next generation of musicians is reflected in his role as an inspiring mentor and educator, shaping the future of classical music.
